Privacy Policy
Effective October 15, 2026
Como Tesla ("the club", "we", "us") is an independent Tesla owners club for Columbia & Boone County, Missouri. This policy explains what personal information we collect through comotesla.com (the "site"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By applying for membership or using the site, you agree to this policy.
Como Tesla is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by Tesla, Inc.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us when you apply or update your account:
- Your full name, email address, phone number (optional), city and state.
- Your Tesla model, model year and whether you own or lease it.
- Proof of Tesla ownership: your vehicle identification number (VIN) and/or your Tesla referral link, and any note you add about sharing the car with someone else.
- A password, which we store only in hashed (scrambled) form. We cannot see your password.
- Your choices, such as whether to be listed in the member directory and whether to receive emails about new events.
- Your consent to share your ownership details with Tesla, Inc., and the date you gave it.
Information created when you use the site: your member number, application and verification status, event RSVPs, and a record of account actions (such as when your application was submitted or approved).
Cookies: we use a small number of cookies that are needed for the site to work: one that keeps you logged in, one that keeps the organizer dashboard signed in, and one that protects our forms against forged submissions. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use analytics services.
Technical information: our hosting provider automatically processes information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and protect it from abuse (for example, limiting repeated login attempts).
We never ask for your Tesla account password, driver's license, vehicle registration or title, or any bank or payment information. If anyone claiming to represent the club asks for these, do not send them.
2. How we use your information
- To review your membership application and run your membership, including your account and digital membership card.
- To verify that you own or lease a Tesla, and to count verified vehicles toward the club's application for official recognition by Tesla, Inc.
- To organize club events, take RSVPs and send you event details and calendar invitations.
- To send you emails about your application, your account, events you RSVP to and, unless you opt out, new club events.
- To keep the site secure, prevent fraud and duplicate memberships, and enforce our Terms and Club rules.
- To comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
3. How we protect your VIN
Your VIN is encrypted before it is stored. Only club organizers can view it, and it is never shown in the member directory or to other members. When you enter a VIN, we send it to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's free vehicle decoding service (NHTSA vPIC) to confirm that it belongs to a Tesla. Only the VIN is sent, not your name or contact details.
4. Who we share information with
- Tesla, Inc., only with your consent: your name, email address and VIN and/or referral link, so Tesla can verify ownership for the club's recognition. Tesla's own privacy policy applies to information it receives.
- Club organizers, who review applications, run events and manage the founding roster.
- Other members, only if you choose to be listed in the member directory. Members then see your name, city, state and Tesla model, never your email, phone number or VIN.
- Service providers that run the site for us: Vercel (website hosting), Neon (database hosting), Cloudflare (domain and network services), Resend (sending email) and NHTSA (VIN decoding, as described above). They may only use your information to provide their services to us.
- Legal and safety: if required by law, court order or other legal process, or when we believe in good faith it is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of the club, our members or others.
Our service providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries.
5. Emails and your choices
- New event emails: you can stop them at any time with the unsubscribe link in any event email, or in your account profile. We honor these requests promptly.
- Account and RSVP emails: we send these when they are needed to run your membership (for example, application decisions, password resets and RSVP confirmations). They stop when you close your membership.
- Directory listing: you can turn this on or off in your account profile.
- Your information: you can view and update most of your details from your account page. To get a copy of your information, correct something you can't edit, or delete your account, contact us at the address below. We may keep some information when the law requires it or when it is needed to prevent fraud or duplicate memberships.
6. How long we keep information
We keep your information while your membership is active or your application is being considered. If you close your membership or your application is not approved, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable time, unless we need to keep it to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or prevent fraud. Login sessions expire after 30 days.
7. Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypted VINs, hashed passwords, and access limits on the organizer dashboard. No website or email system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. Please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
8. Children
Membership is for adults who are at least 18 years old. The site is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of certain uses. We will honor these requests as required by applicable law. Contact us using the address below, and we may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, let members know by email or on the site. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
